Kaplan do not publish any question papers for the QLTS exams. If you have taken up a preparatory course with a course provider for the OSCE then you are somewhat safe as they will prepare you for the type of questions you may get asked. But make no mistake, most course providers are doing their best to provide a good number of mock stations & covering a variety of topics for the OSCE; but I do not think any of them can fully prepare a candidate for the OSCE exam.

This is where the CILEX past question papers and suggested answers can assist you with preparation for the OSCE. Please note that just reading the CILEX past papers is not sufficient (seriously!) and this is only additional prep material that I suggest along with reading OUP/CLP Books and/or your own course provider’s materials.

Each CILEX paper is divided as follows:

1. Case Study booklet (this is released prior to the actual exam)- see here for the Jan 2020 which is already available
2. Question paper
3. Suggested answers- written by the Chief Examiner (which from June 2018 discusses how candidates performed on each question and then provides suggested answers. It also goes on to say that if anyone wrote more than what was in the suggested answer they are given due credit for that i.e., additional marks)

Important things to note:

1. CILEX Level 6 past question papers are suitable in assisting with preparation for the OSCE Exam (but do not just rely on this)
2. CILEX past question papers do not follow any of the six different types of assessment format on which you get tested for the OSCE (see my other post on structure of the OSCE)
3. If you are preparing on your own for the OSCE this is an extremely helpful additional resource
4. CILEX past question papers will certainly give you good direction in terms of additional material (apart from course provider’s materials) in preparation for the OSCE
5. CILEX only publish the last 3 years of past question papers so make sure you download them asap!

How to study the CILEX past question papers

1. Use the case study booklet- read this thoroughly
2. Read the question paper- try and answer the questions as much as you can from memory & write down your answers on a separate paper. (You may also prefer to type your answers into a word document. But also try to write some of the answers as this can be very helpful in getting accustomed to writing as you will need super fast writing skills for the attendance note assessment)
3. Check the suggested answers- make notes of what you missed out in your own answer and ensure you understand why you made the mistake
